The Compassionate Resource Warehouse (CRW) is asking for our assistance in helping them gather some needed items for their next load for Burundi in Africa. Burundi is listed as the poorest country as per GDP in the world; they have a population of over 13 million living in an area smaller than Vancouver Island. Poverty is rampant; most survive on subsistence gardens - 40% of government funding comes from humanitarian aid.

They specifically need the following items for the next load to be sent to Burundi:

  • For 2 orphanages: 100 children: twin sheets and blankets, and towels
  • Sports: soccer balls, balls of every type
  • Art Supplies: paint, brushes, paper, crayons, scissors
  • Teacher Resources: chalk, French flash cards, bulletin boards, staplers, scissors
  • Small stuffed toys
  • Cookie tins
  • Underwear and bras: these are extremely precious and urgently needed. The bras are mainly for teenage girls who are not allowed to attend school without wearing one so their education literally rests on having this item. Walmart sells a line of bras for $8 each.

Please bring any items you would like to donate to the church on Sunday or to the parish office. We will collect these items until up to and including Sunday, March 10th. The items will be delivered to the Compassionate Resource Warehouse on March 11th to be included in their shipment to Burundi on March 12th.

If you would prefer to make a financial donaton, please make a donation directly to the Compassionate Resource Warehouse at this link.

The pictures above show some of the students and teachers in Tim Hortons' and Vancouver Sun Run t-shirts which were sent in previous loads.
