The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of British Columbia and the Rector of Christ Church Cathedral seek a full-time Cathedral Vicar.
Background
Christ Church Cathedral dubs itself “A Cathedral to the City” and takes seriously its role as a moral voice and spiritual haven in Victoria, as well as its responsibility to resource the parishes of the Diocese of Islands and Inlets. To aid in that work we are searching for a Cathedral Vicar – an experienced priest, serving in close relationship with the Dean, to oversee and facilitate many of the day-to-day activities and ministries of the cathedral. The position will support the spiritual, pastoral, practical, and liturgical life of the cathedral in cooperation with the dean, staff, and numerous active lay leaders of the cathedral parish. The Vicar needs a strong grounding in theology, pastoral care sensibilities, communication and administration skills, and a commitment to serving the needs of this congregation and connecting with the city beyond our walls.
While precise duties and responsibilities will be worked out in conversation with the Dean in accordance with the successful applicant’s passions and skill set, it is assumed that the Vicar will regularly preach and officiate liturgies, have a robust voice at council, teach on topics of interest, and be the clergy lead in some program areas. The Vicar position, while subordinate to the Dean, is envisioned as a senior leadership role on a collegial staff and in a high-functioning cathedral. This is a full-time position that requires flexibility in working hours, including some evenings and weekends, to accommodate congregational events and worship services. We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package.
