THIS WEEK’S PARISH NEWS – October 1 – October 4 (**New Items, *Revised Items)

**No Coffee Time Today. Coffee Times will resume next week.

*Blessing of the Animals Service TODAY, October 1st at 2:30 pm You and your pet are invited to a Blessing of the Animals service. This will be a short service (about 30 minutes long) in the church with a blessing of the animals at the end. You may also bring a picture of a pet (living or deceased) so that the pet can be blessed or remembered. Please invite your friends and their pets to come to this service with you.

**Thank you for your donations at the Crowd Pleasers Concert. $1,545 was raised at the concert with an additional $50 coming in after the concert. The Roof Repair donation envelopes are on the table at the back of the church. If you weren’t able to attend, making a donation at another time would be greatly appreciated. A big thank you as well to Susanne Reul-Zastre for all of her work organizing this very enjoyable and successful concert.

**Thank you to all the volunteers who worked so hard with all the events this week From the Crowd Pleasers Concert on Sunday, to the Vintage Fashion Show and Tea on Wednesday, to Fantastic Friday on Friday, what a week! St. Luke’s is very blessed to have so many wonderful volunteers, who helped with all these events.

*An Evening of Musical Performances – TONIGHT, Sunday, October 1st at 6:00 pm in St. Luke’s Church Featuring vocal students from the BC Vocalist Society backed by world renowned Jennifer Scott on piano, symphony musician James Young on bass, and Bob Caldwell on drums. The evening will also feature professional vocalists Maria Manna, Kim Greenwood and Jennifer Scott. Admission by Donation with proceeds going to the bcvocalistsociety.com.

*Thanksgiving is NEXT SUNDAY, October 8th. We are inviting parishioners to bring food items to decorate the church with vegetables, produce, fruit, and canned goods to spread God’s generosity. The food will be donated to Shelbourne Community Kitchen afterwards. Please flood the church with food! Food drop off time will be from 10 am – 12 noon on Saturday, October 7th. Some suggestions for food donations include: 5 or 10 lb bags of potatoes or carrots, onions, yams, squash, apples, tins of peas, corn, beans, and pumpkin.

**Thanksgiving Sunday, October 8th – The 10 am service will include special music by the bell choir, St. Luke’s choir and trumpeter, Ben Parker.

**It’s Time to Order Your 2024 Church Calendars – We will be placing our order for the Canadian Church calendars and the Anglican Church Calendars soon. In order to know how many calendars to order, please phone (250-477-6741) or email the parish office (admin@stlukecedarhill.ca) to reserve your copy (or copies) of the calendar. Please reserve your copy by Tuesday, October 10th. The Canadian Church calendars, corresponding to the BAS and featuring photographs, will be $8 each, while the Anglican Church Calendars, corresponding to the BCP and illustrated with paintings, are $10. When you phone or e-mail the office, please let Neil know which calendar you are ordering. Neil will call you when the calendars arrive and you will pay when you pick up your calendar.

**Our First Reflections Service this fall will be on Sunday, October 15th at 4:30 pm. This month’s Reflections will feature the Riccio String Quartet. We look forward to having this quartet share their musical talents on violins, cello, and viola with us this month. The readings, prayers, and music of this special Reflection Time will calm your spirit and soothe your soul. Reflections services will now be on the third Sunday each month.

 

**Prescription for Murder – Presented by St. Luke’s Players. a Norm Robbins murder mystery, with just the right amount of humour. Evenings at 7:30 pm, Wednesday–Saturday, October 4–7 and 11–14. Matinees at 2:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday, October 7, 8, 14, and 15. Tickets are $18* each and can be purchased at the door using your debit card, credit card or cash or can be purchased in advance through Eventbrite. *Buy your ticket at the door on Opening Night to take advantage of Opening Night special pricing. **Complimentary Tickets for Prescription for Murder for Wednesday, October 4th at 7:30 pm – Please enter your name in the basket at the back of the church for a draw for tickets for the Wednesday, October 4th performance of Prescription for Murder.

*Mark Your CalendarsThis year’s Celebration Sunday and Celebration of St. Luke’s Patronal Festival will be on October 29th. Please read the handout in your bulletin to find out more about Celebration Sunday.

Save the Date for St. Luke’s Christmas Bazaar November 18th from 10 am – 2 pm. Now is the time to think of items you could make for the sale, such as craft items, jams and jellies, or baking which could be frozen. Thank you in advance for your help with this exciting fundraiser and community event.

Jams and Jellies for the Christmas Bazaar – It’s time to make jams and jellies for the Christmas Bazaar in November. Please leave extra canning jars at the back of the church. Call Pat Bates for more information.

Sidespeople/Greeters Needed for the 10 am Service – We need several people who could be on the substitute list as greeters/sidespersons for this service when the present greeters are away on Sunday. Please talk to Heather Simpson or Barb Prescott if you are interested in being part of this important welcoming ministry.

Coffee Times in the Fall – We still need some people to make coffee this fall. Please look at your calendar and find several Sundays when you can make coffee for the coffee time. Please let Barb Felsing know when you can help out. If you haven’t volunteered in this way yet, instructions and “on the job training” will be provided.
