St. Luke’s Church offers a variety of services through Advent and over Christmas. This is a perfect time to visit St. Luke’s, a historic church in Saanich, to enjoy the special Advent music and services, and the Christmas music and the special Christmas services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The church features beautiful stained glass windows and will be decorated with flowers and greenery for Christmas.

Advent Services

Advent 1 – December 1
8:30 am – Holy Communion
10:30 am – Choral Communion – An Advent service with hymns and an anthem by the choir.
4:00 pm – Contemplative Advent Vespers at Church of the Cross.

Advent 2 – December 8
8:30 am – Holy Communion
10:30 am – Choral Communion – An Advent service with hymns and an anthem by the choir.
7:00 pm – Holy Communion

Advent 3 – December 15
8:30 am – Holy Communion
10:30 am – St. Luke's Christmas Pageant – Adults and children will take part in the telling of the Nativity story.
7:00 pm – Evensong Service

Advent 4 – December 22
8:30 am – Holy Communion
10:30 am – Choral Communion – An Advent service with hymns and an anthem by the choir.
7:00 pm – Longest Night Service – Do you find the lead up to Christmas difficult? This time of year can be hard for many of us because of loss or changes in our lives. Come and enter gently into a quiet holy time. The Longest Night Service, a service of Light in the Midst of Darkness, is open to everyone and could be a time to invite a friend to come and share with you in this time of remembrance and hope. This service will be led the priests and pastors from two local churches: St. Luke’s Anglican Church and Lutheran Church of the Cross. Light refreshments will be served after the service.

Christmas Eve Services

4:00 pm – Child Friendly Christingle Carol Service
The Christingle service is an interactive Christmas Eve service especially for children but enjoyed by people of all ages. A time to remember the birth of Jesus, to sing carols, and to be reminded to carry the light of Christ (Christingle) into the world. The service is about an hour long and is planned especially for children and families. During the service, the children help by adding figures to the empty crèche. The younger children receive Christingle oranges.

7:00 pm – Family Christmas Eve Service 
This Family Communion Service will include candles, carols, soloists (Erika Simpson and Matthew Robertson), and a choir. 

10:00 pm – Choral Christmas Eve Service
This Choral Communion Service will include candles, carols, a soloist (Matthew Robertson), and a choir. Come at 9:45 pm to enjoy Christmas carols with Maria Ross (violin) and Susanne Reul-Zastre (organ and piano) prior to the start of the service.

Christmas Day Service

10:30 am – Family Communion Service 
Celebrate the birth of Jesus with carols, prayers, and communion. Enjoy special Christmas music by the choir and soloists.
