We hope that your summer has been fun and relaxing! We are back this September with some updates regarding youth group for the upcoming months/year - there may be a lot of information, so if you have any questions please let us know.
First off, Caitlin has left her position as a youth group leader. We are so grateful for her work with TRY over the past of couple years and wish her all the best! With her departure comes a new amazing leader who may be familiar to some, and that is Liz Walker!
Regarding our youth group plans for the upcoming months, we are taking things month by month (and maybe even week by week) in order to make sure our plans align with the current COVID-19 precautions that the government has put in place. Currently, our plan for September will be to meet in person (socially distanced) on September 13th and 27th. Our hope is to spend as much time outdoors as possible, but we will be using St. George’s parish as our home base for this month and will have access to their indoor facilities if need be.
On September 13th we will be having our first youth group gathering of the semester! Both parents and youth are invited to attend. Originally, we were going to meet at Gyro Park but due to the smoke we will instead be meeting in the Lower Hall at St. George's. We will be socially distancing indoors, and while not mandatory, we encourage individuals to bring a mask! This gathering is for both parents/guardians and youth! While parents/guardians do not have to come if they do not wish, we encourage you to come and meet other parents and to hear from Ruth, Sharon, and Leslie about the upcoming year!
Our second gathering will be on September 27th at St. George’s from 7-8:30pm. We will stay outside for as much of our time together as possible, but will move indoors if it gets cold or dark!
As you may realize, our gatherings are a bit shorter this year than they have been in the past. Due to COVID-19 regulations, we are not allowed to provide any food/beverages and so we won’t be having a snack break anymore. However, feel free to bring your own food/beverages. We are going to see how the 1.5 hr time seems to the youth, and then decide on the length of future youth groups after that!
Please know that we will be following all COVID-19 safety precautions while at youth group, including having an individual from our leadership team in charge of monitoring social distancing, sanitization, and general cleaning procedures. We believe that seeing each other in person is so important, and so we are hoping to keep planning socially distanced in person gatherings for as long as possible. Obviously, should the COVID-19 situation change, we will make the necessary arrangements to move online.
All the best,
Liz & Jaime
