Christ Church Cathedral's Director of Music Donald Hunt performs Bach's monumental Canonic Variations on "Vom Himmel hoch" (BWV 769) in this special Christmastime recital. Vom Himmel hoch da komm ich her (From heaven above to earth I come) is an old Lutheran chorale describing the miraculous birth of Jesus. Bach's intricate treatment of the choral melody through his five variations is a feast for the ears and the soul!
The recital is presented in place of our 4.00 pm livestream Evensong service while our cathedral community takes a well-deserved week off.
