THIS WEEK’S PARISH NEWS – May 24 – May 30 (**New Items, *Revised Items)
**Your Picture Wearing Red – Please send a picture of yourself wearing red to Daniel ([email protected]) by noon on Friday, May 29th. We’ll look forward to seeing everyone wearing red when we watch the service next Sunday.
Thank You for your Support for the Ongoing Ministry of St. Luke’s Church by writing a cheque, making a donation online through Canada Helps, and by signing up for ECP. Your donations are greatly appreciated. Please refer to the Donate page for more information.
Your donations can be sent in the mail, dropped off at the parish office, or picked up from your home. To mail a donation to St. Luke’s, please send it to: St. Luke’s Church, 3821 Cedar Hill Cross Rd., Victoria, BC V8P 2M6. If you would like your donation picked up, please call St. Luke’s Office (250-477-6741) to arrange for someone to pick up your donation.
**Spiritual Gathering Group – Online via Zoom Thursdays from 10 am to 11 am, starting on May 28th. Every Thursday morning bring your coffee and join us for a time of prayer, discussion and meditation on the topic of ‘What it means to be Anglican.’ For more information, visit the Events page at St. Luke's website or e-mail Leslie at [email protected].
T-Shirt Design Contest – St. Luke’s needs YOUR help to design our 160th anniversary shirt. Share your ideas and love of St. Luke’s by creating an original design. Ideas can be presented in a rough draft format (hand drawn or digital). Design Criteria: appeal to all ages; capture our spirit; small chest logo or full front design; include ‘St. Luke Cedar Hill since 1860’. Deadline for submissions is May 31, 2020. Submit your entry to: [email protected]
**Changes at St. Luke’s Office – Due to COVID-19, and the subsequent closure of our church buildings, Parish Council made the difficult decision to temporarily layoff our parish administrator. Bonnie will continue to receive her employment benefits during this time, and will return to work as soon as it is feasible. In her absence, Daniel will be responding to messages left in the office. We hope that Bonnie is able to enjoy her time off from work, and we look forward to having her return in the near future.
*While the office is closed, please leave a message on the office phone (250-477-6741) or e-mail ([email protected]) or Daniel’s e-mail ([email protected]). Phone messages and e-mails will be checked and responded to regularly.
Please join us every Sunday on your electronic device (computer, phone, ipad, etc.) to watch our weekly liturgical service which will be posted at the video links page of the website and at St. Luke’s Facebook page. You don’t have to be a Facebook member to access this link.
St. Luke’s Spring Fair Fund – Thank you for continuing to make your regular donations and for your extra donations to the Spring Fair Fund. As of May 16th, we have received $1,814.80 towards the Spring Fair Fund (one quarter of the way to our goal of raising $7,000). Let’s see if we can make up the $7,000 of income we are missing because we weren't able to hold our Spring Fair this year. If you are making a donation to the Spring Fair Fund, please note this on your envelope or your cheque, or choose Spring Fair Fund when you make a donation online through Canada Helps.
*Thrifty Foods Smile Cards – Thank you to everyone who has been using their Smile Cards. Please note that the current campaign has ended, but you can still use the money which is on your Smile Card. We received a deposit of $213.80 in April, bringing our total to date to $2,424.61 and we should receive a further deposit in May. We will apply again soon for another project for this year. So please keep using your Smile Cards to help out St. Luke’s in this way!
Our Amazing Journey Day Camp for 2020 is postponed to 2021.... But that doesn't mean that we won't still have fun together this summer. The Planning Team is presently working on plans for a fun and exciting alternative to our annual day camp.
Shelbourne Community Kitchen Urgent Food Support Fund – In the past three weeks alone, the Kitchen Pantry program received and filled over 250 requests for food support and they are registering new members every day. If you are able, please make a donation to the Urgent Food Support Fund so that the Kitchen can meet the increasing demand. See information at the News page.
An Update from ABCs and Rice – As you know, in other years we have supported the Rice for a Year program at ABCs and Rice in Siem Reap in Cambodia through a Fundraiser Tea and Silent Auction in September. This year, because we cannot gather in large groups, it is unlikely that we will be able to hold the tea this fall. But the need is still there and even greater now. See information at the News page of St. Luke’s website regarding how you can make a donation to help the children and families of Siem Reap, Cambodia.
**Admired, a Fundraiser Supporting Our Place and Next Steps to Employment – An online gallery of women leaders in our community was created by renowned local artist Elfrida Schragen as a unique project to benefit Our Place Society during this time of crisis. Visit the Online Gallery and check out Elfrida’s portraits and read each individual’s story. Then, pay tribute to the portrait you most admire, by making an online donation to Our Place Society. See information at the News page of St. Luke’s website.
