We are pleased that some needed work has been recently completed in the cemetery.

For a number of years, we have wanted steps by the shed to provide easier access to the graves in the upper terrace area (Rows M and N). We had been using a cement block there, which was a temporary solution. Finally, we now have two steps in that area. Christopher Barclay also repaired the dry stone wall on the north end of the cemetery that was bulging. As well, he repaired the broken concrete caps on several other walls.

Dry stone walls are somewhat unusual in this part of the country. They are common in Eastern Canada and in Europe. In BC, most walls are mortared but a well-built dry stone wall will withstand the weather over the years better than a mortared wall.

Christopher Barclay, who specializes in dry stone walls, has repaired other parts of the wall for us. This is an ongoing process of gradually repairing the walls in St. Luke’s cemetery.

If you would like to make a donation towards the cost of repairing the dry stone wall, creating the stairs, and other miscellaneous repairs in the cemetery (totalling just over $5,000), St. Luke's would be most grateful. Please make your tax receiptable donation by putting cash or a cheque (payable to St. Luke’s Church) in your envelope and noting on the envelope that the donation is for the cemetery. Another option is to visit the Donations for the Upkeep of St. Luke's Cemetery link to find out how to make a tax receiptable donation using a credit card or by e-transfer.

A big thank you to Christopher Barclay, for his work to help with the upkeep of St. Luke's Cemetery. He does a great job for us and provides a discount on his work as he too has family members resting in St. Luke's Cemetery.
