St. Luke's Financial Outreach Committee meets a number of times throughout the year and reports to Parish Council. The committee's mandate, generally, is to support local charities with one-time donations.

In 2010, St. Luke’s Financial Outreach Committee distributed cheques of $100 - $500 to each of ten charities within the Greater Victoria area: The Threshold Housing Society, Crystal Meth Society of BC, Our Place, Victoria Cool Aid Society (Access Clinic), Community Living Victoria, Young Life (Youth Camp), Victoria Epilepsy and Parkinson's Centre, Beacon Hill Children's Farm, PAWS (for a service dog), and Queen Alexandra Foundation for Children (for Jeneece Place).

As part of an ongoing outreach project, St. Luke's, along with other churches in the Tolmie Region, has been making donations to St. Michael and All Angels to assist with the support of two Palestinian refugee families who arrived in Victoria last March. As a committed sponsor for the families, St. Luke's contributed $3500 in 2010. As well, the Alan Moberg Country Gospel Concert was a fundraiser for the Palestinian Refugee Project and Alan generously reduced his fee so that St. Luke's could send the Palestinian Refugee Project a cheque for $292.

In September, St. Luke's sent $1000 to Hope Trinity Church in Mackenzie for the Tsay Keh Church Hall/Mission Outreach Project.

As in previous years, a contribution was made to the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival for Sacred Music Awards and support was provided for the ongoing ministry of The Sisters of St. John the Divine.

Again this year, St. Luke's participated in the St. Nicholas Day Project, in aid of children at risk overseas. As in the story of St. Nicholas, gold coins (loonies and toonies) were dropped in a Christmas stocking hung in the Narthex from St. Nicholas Day to Epiphany. St. Luke’s parishioners contributed enough to send a cheque to World Vision to free five sexually exploited children. In December, St. Luke's hosted the Jon Bauer Concert which raised $150 from the sale of tickets which was sent to World Vision as well.

Each week parishioners also donate foodstuffs for delivery to the Mustard Seed and for the Regional “Grains” program in support of the meal program at Our Place. In 2010, St. Luke's donated lentils, macaroni, dried peas, white beans, rice, barley, rice noodles, brown rice, lentils, baking spices, dried fruit, and couscous totalling approximately 350 pounds! See also 2011 “Grains” List.

For the fourth year in a row and continuing, the rent charged to the South Island Centre for Counselling and Training (formerly Island Pastoral Services Association - IPSA) for the use of the rectory has been reduced by 50%, saving them $6180 per year. This is part of our mandate to community service.

Parishioners also contribute directly to the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund, which is the official relief and development agency of the Anglican Church of Canada.

Many touching and glowing expressions of thanks were sent to St. Luke's for all these contributions. The committee would like to thank our parishioners who have been truly compassionate and generous in their giving.
